▶ 2-11 until 2-12-2023 @ SIGN project space, Groningen
▶ opening 2-11-2023, 4pm CET
▶ with artists Sara Elzinga, Ål Nik, Thordur Hans Baldursson, and Enrica Arbia

The show presents works that are on the border between visual art, sound, music and performances; an ambiguous perspective; an interdisciplinary view through interactive and interdisciplinary installations, or working methods, alternated with workshops, performances, and public moments. With this project, SIGN also participates in the Soundsofmusic festival, the top festival for experimental music and sound.

[Making Things Bubblic] // Grad Radio Shows
[Making Things Bubblic] // Grad Radio Shows

Across two evenings XPUB shared their work and research through interviews. Interviews here were interpreted in different ways by each student - they structured dialogues, discussions and bubbles of thought, mixed with infomercials and sonic material that shares more of our practices. The radio shows were a teaser to invite the listeners to our graduation show. They were hosted by Ål Nik [Alexandra Nikolova] and Gersande Schellinx and aired on Radio WORM on June 23rd and 27th.

This Sunday the research of Supisara Burapachaisri, Ål Nik and mitsitron will meet at a Sound Jam at WORM. We are happy to invite you to join us at #Wunderbar or online at Radio WORM - we will be part of Expanded Radio’s session with spotlight is on RE#SISTER, WORM’s very own studio community run by and for female and non-binary musicians!

Our performance will be an improvisation based on a visual score we’ve been working on during the last week. The three of us were experimenting by asking ourselves questions, connected to our current researches, part of our master programme of Experimental Publishing at the Piet Zwart Institute. We created and collected images that resonate with our research queries and turned them into cards. Those cards will serve as a visual score of our performance.

We have been questioning “performing” as a concept, oftentimes associated with perfection, pressure and preparedness. What if we focus on the process instead? Is there a way to embrace slowness, latency and even failure? To put our attention on the small scale instruments and sounds, play with the basics. To be fully present in the current moment and space. Our sound jam will explore these questions.

Where: Radio WORM & Wunderbar

When: doors 14:30, start 15:00 h // 12-02-2023

Transverse Atlantis: a sound jam with bachelor students at Willem de Kooning Academy
Transverse Atlantis: a sound jam with bachelor students at Willem de Kooning Academy

In January 2023, Naomi Jansen and I organised and facilitated a 2-week workshop for 18 students from the Willem de Kooning Academy [Rotterdam, NL]. With this class, we wanted to create space for students to experiment with sound for their research and artistic practice.

They made Transverse Atlantis: taking on the challenge of creating a publication using sound as a primary medium, they set out to create an installation – an immersive experience of being in different layers of the ocean, hearing creatures and the ocean itself speak as it gets shallower or deeper. You can listen to it here.

Music Moves You[th] Act II // the sound publication
Music Moves You[th] Act II // the sound publication

A collective piece that allows us to dive deep into our inner voices, to connect with playful exploration. Bringing in the sense of community, we will touch intimate sharing spaces, sound journeys and inner revolutions. The post-production and experimentation of impro, the unknown and the confusion, even the escape from capitalism and moon cycles, welcome all. Listen here.

Organised by artist and scholar Harold Schellinx, X-unPub was a live improvised concert that took place at La Générale, Paris on 22. June 2022. In this collective performance, I used two instruments: my voice and a dj mixer. Listen to it here and find out more about the concept here.

This track is an experiment in another direction, playing a bit more with drums and rhythm. I could say this one goes a bit EDM, but with my traditional indietronic vibe. Or not, I don’t know. Enjoy :-)
